A giving congregation is a fruitful congregation. When we give of our time, energy, and resources we provide a place for others. A giving congregations grows, selfish congregations become institutions and eventually die. Serving is giving, and the opposite of being a servant is selfishness. God will never honor a selfish person!
Acts 20:35 “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Love: First and foremost, we offer Jesus’ love to everyone. We honor our leadership, our elderly, our children by holding everyone in a valuable way.
Excellence: We give of our excellence. Our ability to do things in excellence sets the atmosphere for people to encounter Christ. The floors should shine, the carpets should be clean, the light bulbs must all burn...when this happens it creates an atmosphere for people to experience Christ. Excellence takes the Gospel to the world in a way that is tangible, experiential, and fruitful.
Finances: We give of our finances. Every time someone gives financially, they are trusting God to provide. “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Finances increase ability for ministry. This is why Jesus spoke more about money than any other subject. We are simply stewards.
3 Types of Financial Giving
1) Tithe - The tithe means “ten percent” of your first fruits. We believe this is still a principle of God today. We don’t give out of compulsion, we tithe out of our faith that God provides...and He does.
2) Offerings - An offering is anything above and beyond the tithe. It is seeing a need and having the ability to address the need.
3) Extravagant Offerings - Sometimes people will give an abundance for a building, for a debt, for a mission to make room for others. Offerings allow the church to connect outward and truly bring to the Kingdom of God to the earth!
